Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke admits that, like many fans, she remains unsure of Jon Snow’s fate.

Jon’s very stabby death in the Game of Thrones season 5 finale has sparked a firestorm of debate among fans of the series. Actor Kit Harington has all but sworn in blood that Jon is dead and gone, and showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have made similarly firm comments.

But Clarke, who plays the distant dragon queen Daenerys, says that her own shock made her rather incredulous about the outcome.

“I read the script and I cried,” Clarke says. “I called David and Dan, and I took Kit out for numerous drinks, and was like, ‘What the… what the… you’re leaving me? You’re abandoning us??’”

None of her impassioned demands led to any firm answers, however. Clarke, who is starring in the upcoming Terminator Genisys reboot, attributes this to her lack of finesse at bending the truth.

“I can, with all honesty, say I have no idea what’s happening,” she promises. “I have no idea what’s going to happen.”

That doesn’t mean that the actress has no theories, however. Like Game of Thrones fans across the world, Clarke has come up with her own ideas about Jon Snow’s potential survival.

“If I had to bet, I’d say it’s a 50/50 chance [of his coming back],” Clarke theorizes, noting the presence of “some helpful people there” (i.e., the Red Priestess Melisandre) who have demonstrated the ability to revive the dead.

Still, Clarke has her eyes on Dany’s long-desired prize.

“If [Jon’s death] means that I’m that much closer to getting the throne, then hey, okay!” she laughs.
