The Emmy Awards 2013 nominations were announced yesterday, and Game of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke was nominated for Best Supporting Actress. In a new interview, the actress expresses her gratitude in Dothraki (!) and teases season 4.

The LA Times got a hold of Emilia Clarke after the actress learned of her Emmy nod for her role as Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones season 3.

What did Clarke have to say about her nomination?

Yer chomoe anhaan. Jin ha Khalaan, shekh ma shieraki anni.”

Yep, that’s Dothraki. It means “You do honor to me. This is for the Khal – my sun and stars.”

Further, Clarke speculates why her Supporting Actress performance was one of the six selected by the Emmy voters, saying, “I’m lucky enough to get to play a seriously strong woman who is going from strength to strength, and if you’re a woman who is empowered, maybe you like that.”

Clarke also praises the writing of the show, saying, “It’s so brilliant that it’s impossible not to take it very realistically and to see the realism in the writing. It’s so believable, it’s so real, that there’s not a moment that you’re thinking, ‘I’ve got three dragons in front of me and everyone’s killing everyone.'”

Before the Emmy nominations were announced, Clarke reveals that she was hoping that showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss would be nominated for their work on the show, and the pair were indeed acknowledged, with a Writing nod for Game of Thrones season 3, episode 9 “The Rains of Castamere.”

Game of Thrones also saw nominations for Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) in the Supporting Actor category, Dame Diana Rigg (Olenna Tyrell) in the Guest Actress category, the prestigious Best Drama category, and many more.

In fact, the hit series raked up a total of 17 nods, tying for most nominations with American Horror Stories: Asylum.

In the Supporting Actress category, Clarke is up against Anna Gunn (Breaking Bad), Maggie Smith (Downton Abbey), Morena Baccarin (Homeland), Christina Hendricks (Mad Men), and Christine Baranski (The Good Wife).

‘Game of Thrones’ season 4 ‘is phenomenal’

In the same interview, the actress reveals that she has read all ten scripts for Game of Thrones season 4, and has some very encouraging words about the season.

“I genuinely didn’t think we could get better than season 3,” she enthuses. “But I’m reading it with my jaw to the floor. Season 4 is phenomenal.”

It’s going to be hard to top season 3, of course, which brought fans the long-awaited Red Wedding from the A Song of Ice and Fire Saga.

The New York Times has spoken to Clarke about her reaction to watching the scene, and she says, “It was a hugely emotional thing to watch — we knew it was coming and we said our goodbyes — but I was overjoyed that I wasn’t a part of that. At least I know I’m safe. I’m over on the other side of the sea. And anyway, my dragons would burn you all.”
