Game of Thrones: A Day in the Life offers an in-depth look at one full day of production on the epic fantasy series.

Not unlike Game of Thrones itself, the documentary spans three countries, includes hundreds of diverse characters, and shows the down-and-dirty side of a lavish final product.

(But thankfully, no one dies.)

According to HBO, the featurette “spends one day touring various season 5 sets in Croatia, Spain, and Ireland.” Fans will “see cast members preparing to shoot scenes while prominent members of the show’s massive crew talk about the many jobs that they must oversee – sets and costumes, hair and makeup, and much more – to keep the production operating smoothly.”

Filmed while production on Game of Thrones season 5 was in full swing, Game of Thrones: A Day in the Life also offers a brand-new look at many of the new settings, characters, and conflicts which will power the upcoming season.

The kingdom of Dorne, depicted by multiple lustrous locations in Spain, looks particularly spectacular; fans of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series will be particularly thrilled to see the Water Gardens depicted with such attention and beauty.

At the opposite end of the story – and color palette – new locations beyond the Wall are introduced, set against Northern Ireland’s rugged beauty. (With plenty of stage blood certain to soak the muddy ground.) And in the ever-tumultuous King’s Landing, an unpredictable new character rises up against the sun-drenched backdrop of Croatia; we suspect the future of the characters there may not be quite as bright.

Fans can see the results of the intense labors depicted in Game of Thrones: A Day in the Life in the first major trailer for season 5. Still photos from the season also let fans drink in the intense, lavish detail that puts the production on the epic series in an undisputed league of their own.

Game of Thrones: A Day in the Life airs tonight at 7:30 p.m. on HBO.
