San Diego Comic-Con brought us a lot of great fandom moments, especially from the Game of Thrones team, who had some hilarious surprises up their sleeves!

The Game of Thrones cast, crew and George R.R. Martin were in attendance for this year’s big Comic-Con in San Diego.

Of course the biggest Game of Thrones event was the fan panel, which Hypable attended and reported from. Fans not able to attend in person can now watch the panel in its entirety.

But there were a lot of other great moments over the four days of SDCC, which we know any Game of Thrones fan will not want to miss! So check out our top 5 list of best moments, and add your own in the comments.

5. In Memoriam

You’ve probably seen this one already, but we’ll include it none the less – because it’s just that genius!

This year at the Game of Thrones panel, we were invited to remember all the (many, many) characters we have lost over the show’s three seasons, and of course to relive their grisly deaths. This is Game of Thrones, after all!

Of course the song choice helped, too. Boyz II Men is always classy.

4. John Bradley introduces the ‘Game of Thrones’ experience

Grantland has put together a can’t-miss video for Game of Thrones fans wishing they could have been a part of the Comic-Con shenanigans this year.

Not only do we get to spend a couple of minutes with the ever-charming and hilarious John Bradley (Samwell Tarly), but we also get a nice little taster of the general Comic-Con atmosphere, and what the cast and crew got up to.

Bradley takes us into the Game of Thrones experience, and we get a closer look at some of the props and figurines. “Who wouldn’t like to have a little Jon Snow in their pocket,” indeed.

3. ‘They had it coming’ – xoxo Walder Frey

British actor David Bradley accompanied Mark Gatiss (who, incidentally, is now also a Game of Thrones cast member) to Comic-Con this year to promote their new movie The World’s End, but also had time to talk Game of Thrones, on which he of course plays Walder Frey.

Bradley had some fantastic comments to make about the big Red Wedding scene, in which his character oversaw the killing of Robb and Catelyn Stark.

While the fans have all been mourning the Starks’ deaths, Bradley had no qualms about being the one to off them. In fact, “I felt intense pleasure [killing them], which was alarming,” he revealed. “I’d do it all again if I had the chance. They got what was going to them!”

We’re a little scared, we’re not gonna lie.

2. Khal Drogo crashes the panel

Jason Momoa is always the life of the party, even when he’s technically not invited! Although his character was killed off in Game of Thrones season 1, he is probably one of the most dearly missed cast members, especially because of how adamant he is about somehow returning to the show (and hey, he already managed to sneak his way into season 2, so who knows?!).

When the Game of Thrones crew took the stage for their big panel this year, Momoa made a surprise appearance, barging in and kissing Emilia Clarke (Daenerys) and proclaiming, “I’m not dead, George!”

As the crowd roared, a stunned Clarke completed the moment by reaching out and calling after him, “My sun-and-stars!” Drogo and Dany 4ever.

1. GRRM crashes “Write Like the Wind” performance

We love people crashing things, apparently.

The comedy band Paul & Storm were at Comic-Con this year, performing their fan-favourite song “Write Like the Wind” – a song about how George R.R. Martin needs to write faster so we can get our hands on the last two A Song of Ice and Fire books.

The band members (and audience) were stunned when none other than George himself walked onto the stage, snatched the guitar out of one of the band members’ hands and smashed it to pieces.

As if that wasn’t enough, author Neil Gaiman followed him out and demanded an apology from the band, who had to concede that, “George R.R. Martin is not our bitch.”

Whether or not this was staged, it was absolutely hilarious, and easily our favourite Game of Thrones-related moment of Comic-Con 2013!
