Game of Thrones could be getting animated over at HBO Max.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO Max is currently in the early stages of developing a Game of Thrones animated series.

The streamer has yet to officially announce the project’s existence, but sources say that HBO Max is in the early process of meeting with writers.

If Game of Thrones animated series were to get the green light, viewers could expect a series aimed toward adults, and one that’s “similar in tone” to HBO’s original adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series.

Other than that, there are no other details circulating around on the internet with regards to what the plot of a potential GOT animated series might entail.

Regardless, an animated series set within George R.R. Martin’s world is far from the only GOT project coming down the pipeline from HBO.

Just last week it was announced that HBO was currently in the process of developing an adaptation of Martin’s Tales of Dunk & Egg.

In addition, the premium cable network has made some great strides in recent years with its House Targaryen sequel, House of The Dragon.

As intriguing as a Game of Thrones animated series might be, there’s no denying that fans itching to return to Westeros won’t be left wanting when it comes to content.
