Different Game of Thrones actors have been doing interviews in the lead-up to the second season, and here Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime), Emilia Clarke (Daenerys) and Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran) discuss their characters and share their experiences from season 1. One tiny season 2 spoiler to watch out for at the very end if you’re concerned (but it’s very vague).

Isaac Hempstead Wright has spoken to ScienceFiction.com about his role as Bran Stark. He describes his favourite and least favourite scenes:

My favourite scene to film in series one was the wildlings attack – it was really exciting with lots of dramatic action. I’m fascinated by the prosthetics, they are so realistic. They gave me a few spare moulds of cuts and gashes which I was able to spook my friends with. The hardest scene was the execution scene from the pilot because of the weather. It was so cold and the winds so bitter I think it could have reached temperatures of minus 400°c.

On which cast members he’s closest to:

Getting to know the cast has been very exciting. I’m really close to my Stark family and all the Stark household (and controversially, the Lannisters too!) I’ve been very lucky to have lots of scenes with Donald [Sumpter, who playes Maester Luwin] who has been incredibly helpful and kind to me. I get to meet other cast members too out and about. Jason [Momoa, who played Khal Drogo in Season 1] is larger than life.  He can lift me up with one arm!

In an interview with The Daily Record, Daenerys Targaryen Emilia Clarke discusses the controversial nude scenes she had to film in the first season. She says:

It was daunting, really scary. This was the first major job I had to do but the nudity was integral to the character. Her journey sees her going from a girl into a woman, which is also a sexual awakening.

She also talks about the success of the show, saying:

You are able to lose yourself in something that is so magical and fantastical, it helps you to remove yourself from whatever difficult situation you are in.

Finally, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau was interviewed by myFanbase.de. Among other things, he describes what he likes about Jaime Lannister:

What’s not to like about Jaime? As an actor I couldn’t ask for a better role. [What] I am most pleased about is that he isn’t seen as just another evil villain. But that has less to do with my work and everything to do with the writing of D.B. Weiss, David Benioff and obviously George R. R. Martin.

And when asked what scenes he’s most looking forward to in season to, he simply says, “Brienne.” We’ll leave it at that for the sake of the spoiler-free, but yes, we are also very excited for that!

Don’t forget that the Game of Thrones season 1 DVD and Blu-ray box sets went on sale today!
