HBO has revealed a few details about Game of Thrones season 6 which premieres April 24.

For the first time, HBO’s hugely popular drama will be moving ahead of George R.R. Martin’s book series. So what the hell is coming up?

Not so surprisingly, any and all plot developments are being kept close to the vest. But HBO did offer a bunch of colorful words about the season ahead:

“Following the shocking developments at the conclusion of season five, including Jon Snow’s bloody fate at the hands of Castle Black mutineers, Daenerys’ near-demise at the fighting pits of Meereen, and Cersei’s public humiliation in the streets of King’s Landing, survivors from all parts of Westeros and Essos regroup to press forward, inexorably, towards their uncertain individual fates,” says HBO. “Familiar faces will forge new alliances to bolster their strategic chances at survival, while new characters will emerge to challenge the balance of power in the east, west, north and south.”

Game of Thrones season 6, episode 1 is titled “The Red Woman,” and the premiere’s description is depressingly cryptic. It simply reads: “Jon Snow is dead. Daenerys meets a strong man. Cersei sees her daughter again.”

6×01 is written by Thrones showrunners David Benioff & D. B. Weiss, and is directed by Jeremy Podeswa (who also directed “Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken” and “Kill the Boy” in season 5).

Well… at least they confirmed Jon Snow is dead. For now. We imagine that the episode descriptions will be just as cryptic going forward, as HBO seems hellbent on keeping any and all plot developments top secret. Remember, last month we told you that they had decided to stop sending out screeners to the media as a way of preventing leaks.
