The Game Awards 2018 winners include this year’s GOTY, best art direction, narrative, and more.
Big titles like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Marvel’s Spider-Man are only some of the recurring games in many of the “best of” segments of the Game Awards 2018 nominees list.
Other titles up for multiple awards included Red Dead Redemption 2, God of War, and Detroit: Become Human.
The Game Awards 2018 winners were announced during the livestream on platforms such as YouTube, Twitch, ect. The Game Awards 2018 aired today, November 7, at 8:30 pm EST live from Los Angeles.
Last year, Nintendo Switch title The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild won Game of the Year. This year, Nintendo did not grace the top Game of the Year category, despite a record-breaking year for the Switch, and blockbuster titles such as Super Mario Party and the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (which is not eligible for this year’s Games Awards, due to it releasing after the award show… if only by a few hours). A new Smash DLC character was announced during the presentation; check out our recap below the winners for more details.
The eSports segment of the show is more in-depth than ever, featuring player, commentators, and teams from games like League of Legends and Overwatch. The Best Student Game segment is a great place for newer game designers to get a chance to show off their hard work, as is the Best Indie Game segment.

Marvel’s Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order will be coming to the Switch in 2019, and will even include characters from the X-Men franchise.
Rocket League‘s new DLC features the McLauren car pack, and is available now. Alita: Battle Angel showcased a new action-packed clip of Alita as she battles enemies in an alleyway.
Farcry New Dawn takes place after nuclear bombs are dropped on Atlanta, placing the story during “the first apocalypse,” and releases February 15, 2019.
Hades is a hack and slash with a 2D animation style and explosive battle effects, and it is available now on the Epic Games Store for early access. Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is a new action game from the creators of the Assassin’s Creed series, and focuses on the advancement of human civilization.
Scavengers is an shooter co-op game from the creators of Halo where players are tasked with surviving in an arctic environment as they take down adversaries. Warframe‘s new update will hit on December 10, and is now playable on the Nintendo Switch. Shadow of the Tomb Raider has a free demo available to play now.
Dead by Daylight will have dedicated servers Summer 2019, and showcased a trailer for the new DLC content titled “Darkness Among Us.” Anthem by BioWare premiered a new trailer where heroes gathered to fight Anthem forces in their mech suits.
Crash Bandicoot Racing will feature a remaster of the PS1 classic game in Crash Bandicoot Racing Nitro Fueled, which releases on June 21, 2019. The Outer Worlds is a new single player game from the team behind the Fallout series. It features a lot of the dark humor of the Fallout games, and releases in 2019.
Dauntless brought in a new trailer featuring battles with dragons, and it releases on April 2019 for Xbox One, PS4 and the Epic Platform. From Hello Games comes a short game with a focus on exploration, environment, and nature called The Last Campfire. Player Unknown’s Battleground has new content playable tonight on Steam.
Atlas will feature seafaring battles and giant monster raids as the MMO game releases December 13, 2018, and will be coming to Xbox One next year.
BioWare announced The Dead Wolf Rises, with only a teaser being shown for the game. An newly announced adventure game from the creators of Abzu follows a female protagonist as she ventures into the wilderness with a hawk companion. The Pathless releases on PS4 in 2019. Survived By is a run and gun online warfare game with retro pixel graphics, and it is available to play tonight on Steam Early Access.
The creators of Stranger Things announced a new game for Xbox One, Switch, and PC. The title is a 2D retro-style game featuring the characters of the show fighting off incoming agents in a run and gun style, and is titled Stranger Things 3: The Game. A release date was not announced.
A new Mortal Kombat game was announced, and it looks brutal as ever. Mortal Kombat 11 releases worldwide on April 23, 2019, with a community reveal event on January 17.
Psychonauts premiered the first trailer for the upcoming platformer. The game will be a brand new story where Razputin is tasked with hiding the secrets of the Psychonauts world. Psychonauts 2 releases in 2019.
Devil May Cry 5‘s new trailer was a high octane ride through the demon ridden streets. Dante’s help will be needed when the demo releases on December 7 for Xbox one. Fortnite season 7 launched today, and features some new wintertime activities, like shooting gingerbread men and snowmen. The Block will be a new feature in Fortnite that will showcase the best of the best plays and builds, taking place of Risky Reels. Rage 2 launches on May 19, 2018, and looks to take everything of the last game up a notch.
In Smash Bros. Ultimate, Persona 5 character Joker will be in the Fighter Pack 1. Joker marks the first character announced in the upcoming batch of Smash Bros. Ultimate‘s DLC fighters.
