Gambit’s will-they-won’t-they production has already been frustrating for fans, and now Fox have decided to postpone the release date once more.

Though it’s probably safe to say no one is more frustrated than Channing Tatum, the movie’s star and a huge fan of the comic book superhero to begin with.

According to Collider, Gambit will not be released on October 7, as previously planned. At the moment the movie is still happening, though an additional date has not been provided.

Rumors have fed speculation about whether or not this movie will actually be released, despite Tatum’s obvious enthusiasm, but this could be the first positive news we’ve heard in a while. Production was meant to start in March, and with an October release date, any director would be hard-pressed to put together a great film in that time, especially when you consider Doug Liman took on that role after Rupert Wyatt had to drop the project.

Two dates have been claimed for Fox’s future Marvel movies, with the first being October 6, 2017. Considering this is a year after Gambit’s intended debut, it’s quite possible this could be the film’s new release date.

The second date is January 12, 2018, which doesn’t exactly fall during blockbuster season. Then again, Deadpool broke box office records and continues to cash in on its success, despite a February release day. It may be that Fox is looking to release a film off the beaten path in order to recreate this success. In fact, this date could be for Deadpool 2, which will most likely star Cable.

As far as competition goes, Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe includes Captain America: Civil War in June 2016, with Guardians of the Galaxy 2 in May and Black Panther in November of 2017. Captain Marvel sits alone in July of 2018.

On the DC side, both Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad will premiere this year in March and August, respectively. Wonder Woman will hit theatres in June 2017, while Justice League will debut in November. The Flash is projected to be in cinemas come March 2018, and Aquaman will release in July. For DC in particular, these dates could change and something else could be added given WB’s concerns for the projected success of BvS.

Channing Tatum will be returning as Jenko in 23 Jump Street, though no release date has been mentioned as of this writing.
