Remember when we were all pumped about the Channing Tatum-led Gambit movie? News has been quiet, but it’s definitely still on!

The last we heard about Gambit was in February of this year, when we reported the film’s release date, originally scheduled for October 7, 2016, was pushed back with no specific day mentioned. There was some speculation about Fox’s release date schedule, as several spots had been claimed without specific films attached to them. The October 6, 2017 release date did have some people speculating that it could be Gambit‘s new debut, considering it would be one year after the initial target date.

A lot of this back and forth had to do with Rupert Wyatt having to drop out as director and Robert Liman subsequently filling his shoes. Then screenwriter Reid Carolin decided to continue editing the script, and when you couple that with Channing Tatum’s obviously busy schedule, it’s no wonder the movie got a little bit off track.

And now that you’re all caught up, we can happily report that filming on Gambit will begin in early 2017. The information comes directly from Simon Kinberg, who spoke with That Hashtag Show. You can watch the video below:

It’s a packed schedule for Fox right now, whose X-Men films are being churned out at top speed. There’s a lot on the docket, including Deadpool 2 and the next film in the main X-Men franchise, and it’s nice to get a sense of when the movies will start filming.

The back half of the above interview is with Olivia Munn, who played Psylocke in X-Men: Apocalypse. She’s not quiet about what she wants to see next for her character (we have some ideas, too), and that’s mainly more lines and more fight scenes. (YES!)

For now we’ll just have to see what information slips out next, but it’s good to know Gambit is still chugging along.

Are you looking forward to Channing Tatum starring in the ‘Gambit’ movie?
