Gal Gadot is starring and producing a new drama set during the Holocaust where the Wonder Woman star will play Polish heroine Irena Sendler.

Gal Gadot is going to star and produce a new Holocaust drama called Irena Sendler. Gadot will play the titular Sendler and will produce the film alongside her husband under the umbrella of their new production company Pilot Wave.

Irena Sendler was a Polish social worker, humanitarian, and nurse who helped the Polish Underground during WWII. Sendler’s efforts under Hitler’s horrific regime helped save over two thousand Jewish children during the Holocaust.

As Variety reports, Justine Juel Gillmer will be writing the screenplay. He’ll chronicle Sendler’s work smuggling children out of the Warsaw Ghetto, providing them with false identification, and hiding them with other families.

For those who haven’t heard of her before, Irena Sendler was quite a badass–a perfect role for Wonder Woman herself, Gal Gadot to play. Sendler was ultimately arrested by the Gestapo in 1943 and brutally tortured, but she never revealed any information about the children she helped rescue. Sendler ultimately passed away in 2008.

This will certainly be an intense role for Gal Gadot, and one quite unlike anything she’s done to date. However, we can’t wait to see what she brings to this historical drama.

Irena Sendler is another in a pretty long string of upcoming movies for Gal Gadot. Not only does she have Wonder Woman 1984 coming up in 2020, but she’s also set to star alongside Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds in Red Notice and in Kenneth Branagh’s sequel to Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile.

We can’t wait to see Gal Gadot light up the big screen again as Wonder Woman and playing a real-life Wonder Woman in Irena Sendler. Because production is in the very early stages, we don’t have a release date yet, but we’ll keep you posted as more news drops.
