Frozen director Jennifer Lee has found her next project: A Wrinkle in Time.

Last year Jennifer Lee became the first woman to have a director’s credit on a Disney Animation film. She co-directed Frozen with Chris Buck from a script in which she has the lone screenplay credit. Previously she co-wrote Wreck-It Ralph. She has a major role as part of Disney Animation’s story trust, but she’ll now branch out into another part of the company.

Lee has been hired by Disney to adapt Madeleine L’Engle’s classic novel A Wrinkle in Time. At this time no director has been set for the project, but we have high hopes that Disney will give the job to Lee.

A Wrinkle in Time was published in 1962 and was one of Lee’s favorite books as a child. She won the job by impressing Disney with her take on the novel which features a strong female-driven story. Disney was also impressed at how she blended the science fiction and world-building parts of the novel.

The novel was previously adapted one time before, but that adaptation was a made for TV movie, so this adaptation of the novel obviously has a lot more potential. The 2003 A Wrinkle in Time wasn’t received very well, so we’re excited to see how this adaptation does. With Lee at least writing the script, we have faith that the story side of it will be of quality.

A Wrinkle in Time is a bizarre novel that involves travel through time, space, and dimensions, and we can’t wait to see how this plays out on the big screen. Here’s how Amazon describes the book:

A Wrinkle in Time, winner of the Newbery Medal in 1963, is the story of the adventures in space and time of Meg, Charles Wallace, and Calvin O’Keefe (athlete, student, and one of the most popular boys in high school). They are in search of Meg’s father, a scientist who disappeared while engaged in secret work for the government on the tesseract problem. A tesseract (in case the reader doesn’t know) is a wrinkle in time.
