Many of us miss Walt Disney Animation Studios’ 2D, hand-drawn animation style and wish they had used it one more time for Frozen.

Like Disney always tells us, dreams can come true if you wish hard enough.

Disney Animation artist Cory Loftis has revealed several pieces of Frozen concept art on his Tumblr which show what the wildly successful film would’ve looked like if it was in 2D. This art is primarily from the “Love is an Open Door” sequence and makes us wish we had the opportunity to see the movie using this type of animation.

Disney, like other studios, have switched to CGI/3D animation because of the changing times: Production on a CGI film can move faster and more efficiently than one being created in 2D. In addition, younger generations of viewers are now very familiar with 3D and prefer the newer look over the older.

Disney has said in recent years that they have no plans to produce another 2D or hand-drawn film, but Disney Chief Executive Bob Iger said as recently as last year that they wouldn’t rule it out in the future. The Mouse House’s most recent hand-drawn movie was 2009’s The Princess and the Frog.

Frozen has grossed $400 million in the United States, making it the 19th highest-performing film in domestic box office history. It is the highest-grossing animated film worldwide and holds the number five position overall.

Do you think you would’ve preferred ‘Frozen’ as a 2D movie?
