The future of Fringe is still very much up in the air, but the producers have a plan. Beware of spoilers.

John Noble has told TV Line that they have shot two versions of the ending. Lance Reddick elaborates:

The way [season 4] ends could function as a series finale, but there’s one storyline left open that could end up as a cliffhanger for the beginning of the fifth season…. We’ll see what airs depending on what [Fox and WBTV] decide.

Noble also reveals that the finale will answer some big questions, including whether Olivia is truly fated to die, and that it’ll reveal an obstacle that’s “something bigger” than David Robert Jones.

As much as the producers are making sure the series can end in a satisfying way, we still really want that fifth season! Especially after this tease from Joshua Jackson:

The door to the fifth season is opened in episode 19 (airing April 20). If you watch that, you’ll have an understanding of where they want to take the series.

We’re still waiting for news of the show’s future, which was expected some time this week.
