Sorry, Greek fans — it looks like we won’t be getting the made-for-TV movie reunion we were originally promised.

Last year fans of ABC Family’s beloved college drama, Greek, flipped when we learned a revival was officially underway at Freeform.

The news sounded too good to be true, especially when we learned series creator Sean Smith would be coming back to executive produce the project, and that he was already looking into getting the entire Cypress-Rhodes University gang back together.

The revival was originally pitched as a holiday movie that would find our old favorites returning to Cypress-Rhodes for their five-year reunion. Now, it looks as though plans for the made-for-TV movie have been squashed.

On Thursday (June 22), TV Line broke the news that Freeform has officially decided to nix plans for the Greek revival.

Though Freeform has yet to comment on the matter, or give fans an explanation as to why they didn’t go through with the plans, the outlet was able to get a statement from Smith himself.

Interestingly, it sounds as though Smith is just as confused about Freeform’s decision as the rest of us are. The series creator revealed that he learned the network had scrapped plans to go through with the revival along with the rest of us Greek fans.

“I delivered a script to Freeform in February that they seemed to love enough to want to move forward,” Smith told TV Line. “We reached out to the cast. Then Freeform told me they didn’t have the money to make it this year…maybe we can next year. Then I heard from TV Line that it’s officially not moving forward. So I’m obviously disappointed but grateful for the time I got to spend with those characters again. I’m sorry I can’t share that work with the fans.”

As sad as we are to hear we won’t be getting the two-hour made for TV movie, we’re still hoping Freeform will let us in on why they decided against going through with producing it.
