Captain America: The Winter Soldier has now added a new cast member and character. Frank Grillo will be playing villain Crossbones in the sequel.

Recently, Frank Grillo tweeted about a meeting with Marvel, and led fans to believe it had something to do with Captain America‘s sequel. Many speculated that the actor would be playing the character Crossbones in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Now, Variety and multiple other sources have confirmed that Grillo will be playing Crossbones in the sequel. Grillo was recently seen alongside Liam Neeson in The Grey.

Crossbones first appeared during the “Bloodstone Hunt” storyline in the issues of Captain America. He actually first appeared in issue #359, in one comic panel, as a shadowy figure. In the following issue, he was shown in full costume, but again he simply observed Captain America and his allies and did not fight them.

We’re not quite sure how they’ll use Crossbones, but at one point he actually [spoiler] kills Cap! So we look forward to finding out how he’s used in the story. Let us know what you think of Frank Grillo joining the cast.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is being directed by Anthony and Joe Russo. The sequel stars Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, Frank Grillo and Samuel L. Jackson. The film’s release date is April 4, 2014.
