If you weren’t satisfied with the amount of romance in The Hunger Games, sequel director Francis Lawrence agrees with you.

In a new interview with NY Mag, the Catching Fire helmer briefly touches on the romance in both films and reveals that his movie will have more love — and more of a triangle between Katniss, Peeta, and Gale.

NY Mag said to Lawrence, “The first film skimped a little on showing us the strategy behind the Katniss-Peeta love story,” to which he responded, “I felt the same. I felt the love story in general was, um, a bit buried in the first one. I wanted to bring the love story to the surface. And when I say love story, I mean the triangle.”

Promotional material for the film hasn’t suggested an increase in romance, but Lawrence’s word can obviously be trusted. Perhaps we will see a love triangle in the form of subtle visual clues that give illustration to the thoughts inside of Katniss, Peeta, and Gale’s heads. In the book by Suzanne Collins, Katniss struggles with her feelings towards Peeta and Gale.

Elsewhere in his interview, Lawrence says that impressive special effects can be expected. “I think the effects are phenomenal. If you know the book, there’s a monkey-mutt attack, and Weta, who did Rise of the Planet of the Apes and King Kong, did the monkeys for us.”

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire opens November 22, 2013. Tickets for the film are now on sale and allow you to see it as early as 8 p.m. local time on November 21.
