From all the footage we’ve seen, Chronicle, from director Josh Trank and Fox, has potential to be a hit. Apparently Fox shares these beliefs, as Variety has reported they are eyeing Trank to direct their reboot of the Fantastic Four franchise.

According to the report from Variety:

Trank has had several meetings regarding the project, but with his debut feature still three weeks away, insiders tell Variety that Fox is expected to wait to see how “Chronicle” opens over Super Bowl weekend before extending an official offer. That said, Fox is high on “Chronicle” and would like to keep Trank in business with the studio, which has displayed confidence in the pic, offering exclusive footage during the NFL’s wild-card weekend after the pic’s trailer generated massive traffic online.

Internally, studio execs expect Trank to land the coveted helming gig.

It sounds like Fox is very confident in Chronicle, and considering the buzz the film has received, despite having no big names attached, it’s not surprising. Check back in the next weeks as news regarding the project — written by The Green Lantern scribe Michael Green — is likely to surface. Do you think this news is promising? Or will you wait to see Chronicle in its entirety to decide?
