A new big screen adaptation of the beloved family program is in the works. 20th Century Fox has acquired the rights to bring Sesame Street to life as a feature film.

This will be the third theatrical outing for the series. Follow That Bird in 1985 and The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland in 1999 were the two previous releases.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Joey Mazzarino, who has served as a longtime writer to the show, is signed on to write the screenplay.

What do you think? Will this be well done? Are you excited to see more of Jim Hensons’ dear muppets on the silver screen?
