Today at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour, Fox announced it has ordered a new pilot titled Star from Empire co-creator Lee Daniels!

Star will focus on the story of three young woman who all have the hope to make it big, as well as the decisions that they will have to make on their way. A press release on the pilot tells us that it will “showcase the allure and heartache of the cut-throat music scene, while also exploring cultural themes from a new perspective. What would you do to rise to the top?”

Star serves as the first project from Daniels’ multi-year deal with 20th Century Fox Television. It will be written, directed, and executive-produced by Daniels. Tom Donaghy will also serve as the writer and executive producer. Casting for the pilot is expected to begin soon.

Daniels is known for his work as an Academy Award-nominated filmmaker, including his most recent box office hit The Butler, which held the number one box office spot for three weeks in a row. It grossed more than $175 million worldwide. Daniels is also known for his Academy Award-winning film Precious.

Currently, Daniels is also set to direct an installment of The Ten Commandments. The series will be a 10-part event and is a Richard Pryor biographical film.
