Today, November 4 2015, L’Oréal Paris is trying to change the conversation around #WCW and #WomanCrushWednesday. They want to shift it to be about inspiring woman.

It’s hard to believe that over 75% of people who post about the weekly #WCW trend don’t see posts highlighting women who make a difference in the lives of others. The beauty brand L’Oréal Paris wanted to change that and has been encouraging fans to post about women who are trying to change the world. Well, we were pretty inspired by that and thought, who has been inspiring us lately? We came up with some options, three real and one fictional because, let’s be real — strong and empowering women are everywhere.

Melaney Smith

Anyone who wants to help grant children access to books is crush-worthy in our eyes. Melaney helps underprivileged kids in and around Atlanta, GA get piles of books to read during the summer months so they don’t encounter the “summer slide.”

Jaha Dukureh

This woman advocates to help girls and women everywhere from the suffering caused by FGM. Blake Lively seems pretty taken with her, so we are too.

Maria Rose Belding

Still in college, Maria Belding has created an entire network to help homeless shelters give and take food that they might not need, or that they want. The app, MEANS Database, started for D.C.-based locations, but is now spreading across the country.

Kara Zor-El

She might be known as Supergirl, but Kara is definitely a woman worth celebrating. In the two weeks since Supergirl has debuted, she’s been able to save a plane-full of people and snakes from trees. If Cat doesn’t have a problem with ‘girl,’ we don’t either.
