Lee Pace guest stars on The Mindy Project season 3, episode 13, “San Francisco Bae,” airing next week. We have a few suggestions about who could be next to guest star.

He is just one actor to join the ever-growing list of actors and actresses who have guest starred on the show. Shonda Rhimes, Bill Hader, B.J. Novak, Julia Stiles, Chloë Sevigny, Rhea Perlman, and James Franco are just a few actors the show has been able to feature over it’s series run thus far.

Below, we suggest five men and women who could be plausible guest stars for the show. (Alright – maybe they’re not ‘plausible,’ so much as ‘entertaining thoughts.’)

Lena Dunham

Who she should play: Danny’s fringe cousin.

A native New Yorker, like Danny, and headstrong woman, like Mindy, Lena Dunham is actually friends in real life with Kaling and could easily guest as a patient of Lahiri’s. In this Kaling interview, that Dunham conducted, in 2013, the two discuss the topics they’ve come to be experts on: being the boss of your own show, and being a standout among the television landscape. Knowing what we do about Danny’s family, it wouldn’t surprise us to find that he has numerous cousins around the area, making Lena a perfect fit for an episode or two.

Matt Bomer

Who he should play: Neal Caffrey.

We can’t recall if Matt Bomer exists in The Mindy Project’s universe, so let’s say for this article’s sake that he doesn’t. His guest character on the show could be the criminal antithesis to Morgan “no more stealing cars” Tookers. It would help if he wore a suit and suave fedora. On second thought – we might just be going through a White Collar withdraw. Still, this could be an interesting dynamic.

Steve Buscemi

Who he should play: TBD.

If only because of the below tweet from Mindy. Apparently, it doesn’t matter if it’s Michael Fassbender or Steve Buscemi, Kaling (and Lahiri) have good taste in men. We are thinking Buscemi could be either a character’s relative (that’s the easiest way to bring in a guest star for a short period of time) or someone like a hospital executive. Maybe throw a few prohibition jokes in there for good measure, and it could be a great – if not sort of strange – episode.

Reese Witherspoon

Who she should play: Herself.

We love a celebrity who can take a joke, so when Reese went all-in with the ‘Wreath Witherspoon’ meme that was spurred during The Mindy Project Christmas episode, we were equal parts thrilled and humored. She’s getting a lot of Oscar buzz for her lead role in the film Wild, but regardless whether or not she’s nominated for the statuette, she would knock a guest role on the show out of the park.

Is there someone you’d love to see on ‘The Mindy Project’?
