Hypable had the chance to interview The Flash cast at Comic-Con on Saturday! Here are the teases that will have you clambering for season 2.

Grant Gustin on how season 2 will bring us a different kind of Flash

Grant Gustin talked us about how season 2 will be a season of growth and maturity for Barry. While he starts off the season hailed as Central City’s hero, in his heart, he’s torn up over Eddie’s sacrifice. Eddie’s death will have a huge impact on Barry as he begins isolating himself and shunning all of his friends in the hopes of keeping them safe.

At the same time, Barry will find a new mentor who will teach him to hone his abilities in an extraordinary way. Barry will push his powers to new limits, and Grant Gustin told us that Barry will learn to unlock a new part of his powers in episode 2 of the upcoming season. Could this mysterious new mentor be Jay Garrick? Both Andrew Kreisberg, the Executive Producer, and Grant Gustin refused to answer, but their smirking smiles have us hoping…

As for that musical episode everyone keeps hoping for… Grant Gustin told us not to hold our breath. While The Flash does have an extraordinary lineup of musical talent within its cast, Grant Gustin feels like a musical episode is something that belongs in a show’s tenth season, not it’s second. He is however petitioning for more “fun” to be included next season by turning the karaoke bar into a regular group hangout spot!

Candice Patton promises that season 2 will be all about the Wests

Candice Patton talked to about how last season’s arc was really about Barry’s relationships with his fathers and his family, but she promises that season 2 will be all about the Wests and Iris’ complicated relationships with her own family. Does this mean that Iris’ mother will finally make her long-rumored appearance? Unfortunately, the cast couldn’t say. As for that other famous West, Wally, E.P. Andrew Kreisberg confirmed to us that when we do finally get to see Wally West on the The Flash, it will be a post New 52 Wally West because the Wests on The Flash are African American.

But now that Iris is finally in on the Flash’s secret, Candice Patton assured us that Iris will be in the trenches full time, helping out the Star Labs crew. Hypable asked her what skills Iris is able to contribute to the team that are unique unto herself, and Candice told us that as a reporter, Iris is able to tap into the emotions and heart of a situation in a way that the scientists aren’t always able to. Iris knows how to talk to people and get the real scoop on a story, and that’s not something that people like Cisco and Caitlin are able to do sitting behind a computer.

Danielle Panabaker wants to be Killer Frost right now

Danielle Panabaker laid it all out at the start of the interview by proudly declaring, “Oh my gosh yes, I would love to be Killer Frost!” But can she tease when exactly the transformation will be happening? Unfortunately: no. She was able to tease a little bit about what Killer Frost’s costume will ultimately look like though. Danielle Panabaker was able to have some input on what kind of costume Caitlin should have, and after trying out different options, including a catsuit, The Flash team settled on blue leather pants and a corset top.

Carlos Valdes values ‘The Flash’ TV show’s commitment to diversity

Like Danielle Panabaker, Carlos Valdes has also gotten the chance to have some say in his character’s wardrobe. Valdes said that the wardrobe department is very collaborative, and he’s gotten to have some input in the fandom t-shirts that Cisco wears.

As for the more biological rather than costume changes that will be happening to Cisco in season 2, Carlos Valdes said that Cisco will be forced to mature very quickly as he adapts to his meta-human side. In season one, Cisco was really just a bouncing kid, but season 2 will give him responsibilities that will push him to mature into an adult as he deals with the consequences of experiencing different timelines.

From the start, The Flash has been a groundbreaking superhero show in terms of diversity, and the show’s version of Cisco Ramon is a far cry from the cholo Vibe character of the 1980’s comics. So how does Carlos Valdes feel about getting the chance to break ethnic stereotypes by portraying a Latino scientist? Carlos Valdes said that honestly, he’s surprised that it’s turned into a such a big deal. “We’re just tying to make a show that reflects the realities we live in.”

The cast knows who Tom Cavanagh’s mysterious season 2 character is

Tom Cavanagh’s character next season is shrouded in mystery, and as much as we pressed Cavanagh and executive producer Andrew Kreisberg, they refused to divulge in exactly what kind of way Professor Wells would be back, despite theoretically being erased from existence in the season finale. However, the new villain for season 2 will be revealed tonight at the DC TV panel at Comic-Con, but Andrew Kreisberg assured us that it will for sure not be Grodd, because he’s simply too expensive to have around for every episode.

John Wesley Shipp says ‘The Flash’ does relationships right

As for the original TV Flash, John Wesley Shipp said that playing Henry Allen has been interesting because he’s so mysterious. Shipp suggested that there are reasons that Henry was so against the idea of Barry messing with time travel, and when Hypable straight out asked him if the fan theories that Henry has his own kind of superpowers were correct, Shipp teased, “What is going on with Henry?…” Shipp told us that the writers have created a universe within the show where anything is possible. And although we have been taken on such a wild ride plot wise, Shipp says that the show’s success comes from building relationships that are so emotional and specific to each character. Building emotional relationships is something that the original Flash TV show could have done better back in his day, Shipp said, but this go around, they’re doing right, and the relationships are why not only the critics, but also the beloved fans have embraced Barry Allen.
