The first photo of Grant Gustin in costume for The CW’s Flash series has been released.

Gustin, who will play Barry Allen in the Arrow spin-off, can be seen in the iconic Flash headgear in the photo:

Oscar winning costume designer Colleen Atwood created the Scarlet Speedster’s costume. Atwood also created the costumes for Arrow, and it shows, as the Flash suit has a similar feel to the gritty hero costumes on Arrow.

Production for The Flash pilot will begin next week in Vancouver.

Gustin will be joined by Jesse L. Martin (Detective West); Candice Patton (Iris West); Carlos Valdes (Vibe); Rick Cosnett (Detective Eddie Thawne); Danielle Panabaker (Caitlin Snow); Tom Cavanagh (Harrison Wells); and the original television Flash, John Wesley Shipp, in a mystery role.

The Flash pilot was originally envisioned as a backdoor pilot set to air as Arrow season 2, episode 20, but after Barry’s introduction in episodes 8 and 9 was particularly well-received by CW higher ups, the network opted for the standalone pilot approach to introduce the world of The Flash.

As planned, Barry Allen debuted in the two-part Arrow season 2 mid-season finale as a Central City crime scene investigator who arrives in the Arrow’s (Stephen Amell) home city of Starling to investigate a series of strange robberies with a possible connection to his past.

At the end of Arrow season 2, episode 9 “Three Ghosts,” the S.T.A.R. Labs particle accelerator malfunctioned, leading to a freak accident that gave Barry his speedster powers. However, he has been in a coma since the accident.
