With the The Legend of Korra season 2 premiere nearing, we look at five characters from the original series we’d like to make an appearance.

Some Avatar: The Last Airbender characters have already appeared in Korra. Katara is still alive and appeared in two episodes of the first season. Aang, Sokka, and Toph appeared in flashbacks, and Korra has communicated with Aang’s spirit.

But there is still a wealth of characters from the original series that we have not seen or heard from yet. Here are five we hope to see in The Legend of Korra season 2. Heads up: There are some mild spoilers from the published comics head.

Yue

At the end of Avatar: The Last Airbender’s first season, Princess Yue of the Northern Water Tribe sacrificed herself to become the new moon spirit after the death of the previous moon spirit threatened the balance of the world. Yue was one of the many spiritual entities that Aang came across, suggesting that she is visible to those sensitive to the spirit world — such as the Avatar.

Since the theme of The Legend of Korra season 2 is spirits, we would love to see our new Avatar, in her quest to maintain balance between mankind and the spirit world, come across a friendly spiritual entity, and Yue would be just that.

Suki

Suki’s fate at the outset of Korra is unknown. In The Promise and The Search comics, she and the other Kyoshi Warriors were enlisted as guards for the Fire Nation Palace. She and Sokka were also still dating, but the remainder of their story is, as of yet, a mystery.

If Suki, a trained warrior and non-bender, is still alive at the time of Korra, she could be a great mentor for the resident non-bender of the new Team Avatar, Asami. Asami has proven herself a capable fighter, but the Kyoshi Warriors are unparalleled and, as Team Avatar faces even greater challenges, her wisdom and skills would be invaluable.

Mai

Mai is another character whose fate is unknown. She and Zuko had reunited at the end of Avatar and continued to date once Zuko became Fire Lord, but they broke up in The Promise part 2. However, in The Rebound, it became apparent that Mai still had feelings for Zuko.

But Mai’s connection to Zuko is not the only reason we’d like to see her in The Legend of Korra. She is another non-bender whose fighting expertise would be valuable someone like Asami or even Korra, who struggles with the type of precision that Mai excelled at with her throwing knives. Her years alongside the Fire Nation Royal Family would also have given her unique insight into politics that our current heroes could learn from.

Azula

Azula broke down completely by the end of Avatar after her defeat at the hands of Zuko and Katara. She struggled with hallucinations of her missing mother through The Search comics. Azula’s cruelty, obsession with power, and acute sense of abandonment created a perfect storm of imbalance, making her story one of warning for future generations.

We’re curious to see what her fate ended up being — was Zuko able to help her find peace and redemption or did she struggle with insanity for the rest of her life as a footnote in the overwhelmingly tragic history of the Fire Nation Royal Family?

Zuko

As a key player in the Hundred Years War, Zuko’s legacy is already splashed across The Legend of Korra. He helped Aang found Republic City and his grandson, General Iroh, is a commander in the United Forces who came to Korra’s aid at the end of season 1.

Zuko’s fate is also one of the few we do know about. Three years prior to the start of The Legend of Korra, he retired after a lengthy reign as Fire Lord and was replaced by his daughter. At 87, Zuko currently travels the world as an ambassador for peace and balance. Having undergone possibly the greatest development of anyone in the original series, we would love to see a wizened Zuko mentoring our new heroes in the vein of his uncle before him.

The Legend of Korra season 2 premieres on Friday, Sept. 13 at 7 pm on Nickelodeon.
