Scarlett Johansson will be reprising her role as Black Widow in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and five other actresses are being screen tested to possibly play a love interest for Captain America in the sequel which is part of Phase Two of the Marvel cinematic universe.

Marvel Studios is kicking Captain America‘s sequel into high gear by testing some of Hollywood’s hottest young women to star in its next film. Scarlett Johansson will also be strapping on her leather boots once again to join this ensemble cast. Since Johansson won’t be showing up in Iron Man 3, she may end up playing a more important role in The Winter Soldier.

If you’ve seen The Avengers alternate opening sequence, you’ll know that Cap nearly calls his old fling Peggy from the first Captain America film. Considering The Avengers took place during 2012 and Captain America: The First Avenger took place during the early 1940s, Peggy would at least be in her late 80s – if not older. We don’t know that they’ll resolve this story line before moving forward, but considering Peggy wouldn’t be able to tag along on any of Cap’s missions, we can’t imagine she’ll be in the film – unless of course they go with flashbacks, which they did favor in the first film. This is somewhat disappointing, since fans greatly enjoyed actress Hayley Atwell as Peggy in the first film.

She’s gone on to say that, “I haven’t heard anything. There have been talks… there’s a possibility. I know they’re either writing it now or they have written it by now, so I’ve moved on in another direction.” It seems as though the writers may have found it too difficult to work her back into the story and decided to move on to a new love interest for Cap.

The new character itself remains under lock and key, but it will most likely be the new love interest for Steve Rodgers and could be the comic book character Sharon Carter. Sharon Carter is an ex-field agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., who was working with Nick Fury and could often be seen as Captain America’s girlfriend.

Deadline reports that the five actresses who are being tested are Emilia Clark (Game of Thrones), Jessica Brown Findlay (Downtown Abbey), Teresa Palmer (Warm Bodies), Imogen Poots (Knight of Cups), and Alison Brie (Community). Captain America: The Winter Soldier‘s release date is set for April 4, 2014.

We imagine Chris Evans would be happy with any of the five actresses that are being tested, but who would you prefer to see Captain America getting cozy with in The Winter Soldier?
