This week on Gotham season 2, episode 6, “Scarification,” Fish Mooney’s name kept getting brought up and it got us thinking….
Fish Mooney was a powerhouse on Gotham season 1. Her storyline was amazing to follow as she stood tall next to the other gang leaders who were all men and thought that she would be easy to control. We thought it was very likely that Mooney would be taking over as the head of the Gotham Mob. But a slip up caused her plans to be revealed which led to her fall from power.
After being kicked out of Gotham, Mooney worked her way back into the city. She formed a new group of misfits that backed her up but didn’t end up having enough power to take over. The last time we saw her was on the Gotham season 1 finale where Penguin pushed her off of a bridge and into the water.

Since then she has been assumed dead, but is she really? The first little nugget of information we have to examine is Robin Lord Taylor at New York Comic Con 2015. In an interview he revealed that the door was open for Mooney to come back. Like he said, there’s definitely a chance that Fish could have swam to her safety. That’s what Penguin did when Gordon helped him to escape being killed at the very beginning of the season. So there would be a nice circle to the storyline of their love/hate relationship.
When Gotham season 2, episode 6, “Scarification,” aired we couldn’t help but noticed how often Mooney was brought up in the episode. They wouldn’t have done that without a reason, right? Unless they truly get enjoyment out of teasing us for no reason.

Other than Penguin, Butch is the only other one who saw what went down with Mooney. Of course, since Penguin thinks she’s dead so does Butch. Because he’s brainwashed to do whatever Penguin wants. We’re pretty sure he would still have hope she was alive if it wasn’t for all that torture that messed with his brain.
Selina on the other hand, is convinced that Mooney could still come back. Even though she only worked with Mooney for a little while, Selina clearly looked up to her. If it was just Selina talking about Mooney than we wouldn’t be so suspicious. But she wasn’t the only one.

When Selina brought Butch to meet with the Pike brothers they also brought up Mooney. They were loyal to Mooney and think she’s still alive too. They only agreed to help Butch when Selina said that he would join Mooney when she came back. There must a reason that so many of the criminals are keeping up hope for Mooney to return. Let’s be real, the citizens of Gotham don’t have the best morals. So it doesn’t make sense for them to keep waiting for her unless it’s realistic. Or at least, that’s what we hope.
If Mooney does come back, we’re thinking it’s not going to be until later this season. The possibilities are endless for her to ramp up the storylines in Gotham season 2 so we really hope that it does happen.
