The first Wonder Woman sneak peek came last night on The CW, and it’s exactly as good as you were hoping it would be!
Last night on The CW, when we also got that epic Suicide Squad trailer, DC granted us our first look at the 2017 superhero flick Wonder Woman:
Set during World War I, Gal Gadot stars as the eponymous Wonder Woman, with Chris Pine as Steve Trevor and Connie Nielsen as Hippolyta.
The footage has a certain je-ne-sais-Carter vibe to it, perhaps because of the stunning costumes and badass brunette female lead.
In order to introduce this character, who will be brand new to some moviegoers, Chief Creative Officer of DC Comics, Geoff Johns, tells Kevin Smith: “What we wanna do in this film is really tell people who she is, where she comes from, and why she does what she does. And we’ve never seen that on film before.”

We see her riding through a forest, the color grading immediately indicating that this is a DC flick.
Gal Gadot says we’ll see Diana Prince “coming of age” in the movie, learning about “the entire history, what’s her mission,” etc.
As the Amazons were once created to protect man, Wonder Woman is “asking, constantly, why don’t we do what we were created to do and protect them?” says Johns.
Chris Pine says it’s “pivotal and important” to tell the story of “a very powerful woman,” and Johns acknowledges what we already know: Wonder Woman is the “best fighter in the DC universe.”
Johns proclaims her a “feminist cultural icon” who “stands for equality, and that’s really important. I think that’s why people really love the character.”
Finally, Patty Jenkins says, “The greatest thing about Wonder Woman is how good and kind and loving she is, yet none of that negates any of her power.” (Fun exercise: Imagine any of the other superhero directors describing a male character that way.)
