We have our first look at Mowgli, Andy Serkis’ live-action version of The Jungle Book, and it like a much more intense ride than we’ve ever seen before.

Many of us grew up loving the Disney cartoon The Jungle Book, and can still sing songs like “I Wanna Be Like You” and “Bare Necessities” word-for-word. But with the 2016 release of Disney’s Jon Favreau-helmed live-action version of The Jungle Book and now Andy Serkis’ live-action take called Mowgli, one of our favorite childhood cartoons has been getting a serious makeover lately.

The trailer doesn’t make it totally clear what exactly will separate Mowgli from Favreau’s The Jungle Book except for a slightly darker tone and will likely follow Rudyard Kipling’s novel more than the cartoon’s storyline (so likely no songs). But the film looks like it will be absolutely beautiful, and it’s got a totally all-star cast as well.

In addition to directing, Andy Serkis will also be playing the bear Baloo. But the talent doesn’t stop with Serkis. Cate Blanchett will be the voice of Kaa the snake, Benedict Cumberbatch is the voice of the tiger Shere Khan, and Christian Bale will be the voice of Bagheera the panther.

The cast is also filled with the talents of Naomi Harris, Freida Pinto, Eddie Marsan, and the titular character Mowgli is played by the amazing Rohan Chand. Chand might still just be a kid, but from what we can see in the first trailer, he delivers a powerhouse performance as Mowgli.

Obviously, the stakes are high for Mowgli, especially in the face of Jon Favreau’s 2016 film. However, Serkis’ film is filled with talented actors, and the trailer makes the film look like it will truly be a beautiful and compelling take on Kipling’s classic novel. Of course, we’ll have to wait to really get the whole picture until October 19 when Mowgli arrives in theaters.
