The first trailer for Once Upon a Time in Wonderland has been released! See what surprising twists on Alice in Wonderland the series has in store.

Earlier today we revealed some new images from the Once Upon a Time spinoff series Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, and now ABC has released the first trailer:

In the trailer, it is revealed that Alice (Sophie Lowe) has already returned to Victorian London following her visit to Wonderland and has been committed to a mental asylum as she is believed to have been hallucinating.

We then see her in Wonderland trying to gather proof that the place exists, and first look shots of the caterpillar and rabbit reveal very impressive CGI work.

The trailer also features Peter Gadiot as Cyrus, and it is clear that he will be Alice’s primary love interest. We hear the story of how they traveled from world to world (was that Neverland?!), and that he was lost to her.

The doctors claim that Alice is, “An ignored little girl who wanted to be loved, so you created a fantasy land.” But we know better.

Ominously, the doctors then reveal that they will try a new procedure on her, which will make her forget – and she agrees. But then the Knave (Michael Socha) shows up to take her back, promising that Cyrus is alive.

Good, because we already ship it.

“Once long ago, I got you back your heart. Now, you need to help me get back mine,” Alice tells the Knave. And then they’re off!

Do you think Wonderland will feature regular flashbacks to Alice’s first visit to Wonderland, or will it mainly take place in real time?

ABC has also revealed the official description for the spinoff, which reads:

In Victorian England, the young and beautiful Alice tells a tale of a strange new land that exists on the other side of a rabbit hole. An invisible cat, a hookah smoking caterpillar and playing-cards that talk are just some of the fantastic things she’s seen during this impossible adventure. Surely this troubled girl must be insane, and her doctors aim to cure her with a treatment that will make her forget everything. Alice seems ready to put it all behind her, especially the painful memory of the genie she fell in love with and lost forever — the handsome and mysterious Cyrus. But deep down Alice knows this world is real, and just in the nick of time the sardonic Knave of Hearts and the irrepressible White Rabbit arrive to save her from a doomed fate. Together the trio will take a tumble down the rabbit hole to this Wonderland where nothing is impossible.

We are very impressed with this first proper look at the series, which will premiere this fall on ABC. How about you?
