The first official look at Jim Carrey as Colonel Stars in Kick Ass 2 has just been released and it also includes the first look at Aaron Taylor-Johnson returning as his character Dave Lizewski.

Through a cryptic Twitter conversation back in September between Kick Ass 2: Balls to the Wall’s writer and director, fans pinpointed Carrey as the actor being hinted at by director Jeff Wadlow. We were unsure at the time whether writer Mark Millar assumed fans would guess so quickly or not, but he definitely gave enough clues for avid fans to figure out who he was talking about. Fans quickly replied to him, suggesting Jim Carrey as the mystery actor that had been hinted at and it was later confirmed.

Check out the first official shot of the Colonel in Kick Ass 2: Balls to the Wall below:

Colonel Stars is “an ex-thug and born again Christian who sets up Justice Forever (a superhero team that Kick-Ass joins early on in the second volume).” Colonel Stars’ pet dog apparently plays a larger part in the comic, but the Colonel’s actual role is quite small. We imagine with an actor like Jim Carrey joining the cast, the Colonel’s role will be expanded a bit due to his star-power.

In the action-comedy sequel Kick-Ass 2 (out June 28), the eponymous hero (Aaron Taylor-Johnson, right) joins a superhero team called Justice Forever, led by Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey, left). Chloe Grace Moretz reprises her role as Mindy, but has “given up Hit Girl and is trying to be a normal teenage,” says Jeff Wadlow, who picks up the directing reigns from Matthew Vaughn. – Entertainment Weekly
