Starring Sharlto Copley (District 9) and Michael Nyqvist (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), the film follows a group of astronauts in search of extraterrestrial life on Jupiter’s moon.

Comingsoon found the below image in the latest Entertainment Weekly, as well as a brief synopsis of the film:

In the Sebastian Cordero-directed sci-fi film, coming later this year, a group of astronauts make the arduous journey to Jupiter’s frigid, glacial moon Europa in search of extraterrestrial life. The only thing more intimidating and unpredictable than the trip itself is what the team will encounter upon arrival…

Take a look at the scan from EW:

The film, which is directed by Sebastián Cordero, also launched a viral site for The Europa Project, which can be viewed at EuropaVenturesLLC.com, where the following explanation is given:

For decades, scientists have theorized the existence of liquid water oceans on Jupiter’s moon, Europa. We’ve recently discovered new, captivating evidence that these sub-surface oceans do exist and could support life.

We’ve sent six astronauts from space programs throughout the world on a three year journey to Europa to explore its oceans and confirm these findings.

We’re proud to be at the forefront of the effort to prove the existence of extra-terrestrial life within our solar system, within our lifetimes.

The very international cast includes Sharlto Copley, Michael Nyqvist, Anamaria Marinca, Christian Camargo, Daniel Wu and Karolina Wydra. It looks like this could be a sci-fi film in the same vein as Sunshine, which is both rare and exciting. We’ll be sure to keep an eye out for any developments regarding The Europa Project, which is slated to hit theaters later this year. Are you as intrigued as we are?
