Following Merlin actor Colin Morgan’s NTA award win last night, the BBC has released an image of his character in new drama series Quirke!

It was announced earlier this month that Morgan’s first post-Merlin role would be Jimmy Minor in the period drama Quirke. It is set in Dublin, Ireland in the 1950s, and Morgan plays a reporter who becomes involved with a murder mystery.

BBC tweeted out the following congratulatory message for Colin Morgan, along with an image of his character:

We guess after last night there was no need to keep his look secret, as we’ve already seen the haircut!

Hypable has previously released a more in-depth guide to Morgan’s character and his role in the John Banville book series on which this show is based. In short, Jimmy first appears in the novel An Elegy for April (which is covered in the third and final episode of the miniseries) when Quirke (Gabriel Byrne) gets involved with investigating the mysterious disappearance of his daughter Phoebe (Aisling Franciosi)’s friend April.

Morgan started filming the series Monday, and at the NTAs last night he spoke briefly about his work, telling the Radio Times that, “Although I’m working in Dublin, I’m still not using my own accent! Hopefully I’ll get to use my own accent soon.”

Quirke will air later this year on BBC.
