We got our first look at Naomi Watts in action as the late Princess Diana in the upcoming biopic,Diana. Take a look at the first trailer!

EOne, the company handling distribution of the movie about Diana, Princess of Wales, released the first teaser trailer showing Naomi Watts in the title role.

The film takes place during the last two years of the Diana’s life, chronicling her campaign against landmines and her relationship with heart surgeon Dr. Hasnat khan played by Lost alum Naveen Andrews.

The trailer which features no dialogue shows Watts attending red carpet events, dodging the paparazzi, doing charity work, and flashing that infamous princess smile.

Diana’s marriage to Prince Charles of Wales, social life, relationships, and untimely death remain sources of fascination for people all over the world.

A major motion picture about her life has always seemed inevitable and became even more imminent after the 2007 release of The Queen which garnered Helen Mirren an Oscar for her performance in the title role.

From the looks of the trailer and from what we know about the cast, the royal family does not appear in the film aside from probable appearances by young versions of sons William and Harry.

Original reports had Jessica Chastain cast as the iconic princess, but scheduling conflicts lead the actress to drop out. Watts was later cast, and from the looks of things, she fits the bill.

Oliver Hirschbiegel is directing with a script penned by British playwright Stephen Jeffreys, whose only other screenwriting credit is 2004s The Libertine starring Johnny Depp.

EOne acquired distribution rights at Cannes and while no official U.S. release date has been set, the movie is scheduled to hit theaters in the U.K. on September 20.

We will keep you updated on when a U.S. release date is set.
