BBC is producing an epic biopic special for the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, and the first shot of David Bradley portraying the first Doctor is eerily spot on!

For those of you not in the know, An Adventure in Space and Time is a feature length special that the BBC is putting on its channel later this year, and it chronicles the very beginnings of Doctor Who.

Here’s the full shot in color:

Writer and director Mark Gatiss commented at the recent Paris Comic-Con how much of an uncanny likeness there is between David Bradley and the first Doctor, William Hartnell.

Bradley, according to Gatiss, was also particularly adept at playing the grumpy Hartnell. Considering Bradley is well-known to many for playing Argus Filch in the Harry Potter movies and Walder Frey in Game of Thrones, grumpy isn’t exactly a stretch.

More recently, Gatiss told Digital Spy that:

David Bradley brings every ounce of his talent, humor and presence to the role of William Hartnell. It’s a wonderfully touching and subtle performance and I’m immensely proud of both him and the film.

Other notable cast members of An Adventure in Time and Space include Reece Shearsmith, Brian Cox, and Jessica Raine. American viewers will be familiar with Raine of Call the Midwife fame. She also guest starred in this year’s ghost story episode “Hide” on Doctor Who.
