Emma Watson and Daniel Brühl star in Colonia, a political thriller set in the ’70s, and now we have our first look at Watson in her new film.

Back in September we found out that Emma Watson had joined the cast of Colonia, which is being directed by Florian Gallenberger, now we have our first look at the Harry Potter star in the film’s first official image seen below:

Colonia is set in the Chilean military coup of 1973. Watson and Brühl will star as a young German couple named Lena and Daniel who get entangled in the overthrowing of democratically elected president Salvador Allende, which is a very violent affair.

In the process Daniel is abducted by the dictator-to-be and current secret chief of police, and Lena tracks him to Colonia Dignidad, a sealed off area led by preacher Paul Schäfer. She quickly finds out that the area is being used as a torture and detention center and that it is unlikely that her husband will ever leave the compound, as few ever do.

We’re excited to see Watson in such a unique film, and co-starring with the incredible Daniel Brühl, who was last seen in Rush alongside Chris Hemsworth. The film’s release date is set for October, 2015.
