The Jessica Jones season 2 teaser hints at Jess’ past… and reveals the long-awaited premiere date.
Our favorite traumatized super-strong detective will be back in action on Netflix on March 8, 2018, and even after her adventures in The Defenders, Jessica doesn’t seem to have changed.
“Everyone has secrets,” she mutters at the start of the Jessica Jones season 2 teaser. “If not their own, then someone else’s.”
It looks like the focus of Jessica Jones season 2 will shift toward a subject mostly hinted at in the first season — the deaths of her family in the accident that gave her her incredible strength. “Knowing what was done to you might help you,” Jessica’s BFF Trish tells her.
“What if facing it makes me worse?” Jessica responds.
And indeed, it wouldn’t be Jessica Jones if things weren’t going pear-shaped at least three-quarters of the time. The teaser includes glimpses of an arrest (in front of a distraught Malcolm), as well as a fiery explosion and what might be an ill-advised makeout session.
Then again, you do you, Jones.
There is, of course, one very prominent face missing from the Jessica Jones season 2 teaser — that of David Tennant’s rapetastic and very dead Kilgrave, who will return under circumstances that remain mysterious. Entertainment Weekly has an early look at Kilgrave and Jessica, an interaction that seems no less twisted for all that it might be in Jess’s mind.
“Jessica is in a pretty dark headspace when we meet her at the top of season 2,” star Krysten Ritter says. “What we’ve done again is kept the story very personal. If season 1 was in her head and in her mind, then this season will be more in her heart. It’s still a psychological thriller, but it’s more of an emotional thriller this time.”
Says showrunner Melissa Rosenberg, “She was somewhat of a mess even before Kilgrave came into her life, so [season 2] is about digging deeper into that chaos and peeling back those layers.”
