We still don’t know a lot about the Halloween sequel, but a few images have been released to give us a small taste!

While everyone involved in the new Halloween film has been extremely tight-lipped about what’s in store for the new film, we do know a few things about what to expect. First off, this movie will take place about 40 years after the events of the original Halloween, it will star Jamie Lee Curtis, and will ignore the events of every sequel that came after the original.

That’s a pretty big undertaking for a franchise made up of eight films (not counting the two Rob Zombie remakes). However, we’re in the age of taking well-loved franchises back to the basics, righting any perceived missteps, and re-writing canon a bit, so it will be interesting to see what gets re-written and how they’ll revive Michael Myers.

In order to truly create a new second chapter of the Myers saga, the new film had to bring back the original onscreen victim of Myers’ obsession–Laurie Strode, played by Jamie Lee Curtis. Curtis played Laurie in the first two Halloween films, and then returned for the sequels Halloween: H20 and Halloween: Resurrection.

However, unlike the other Halloween films that kept Michael Myers alive regardless of what happened to him, this is being called a “final showdown” between Laurie and Michael after Laurie survived 40 years of running from him. We have a ton of questions about what that means about the franchise and what is or is not canon anymore, but for now, we’ll have to settle with the info we have.

We do, however, have our first glimpses into the set. Curtis recently shared a picture from the set where she is set to face her final showdown with Myers, rocking those classic Laurie locks.

We also were given a quick look at one of the filming locations for the film thanks to Nick Turri Photography, Haddonfield High School. Haddonfield High is, of course, where Laurie graduated in the ’70s, but was also where Judith Myers attended before she was murdered by her brother, Michael.

We’re definitely getting some vintage vibes from the school (and that school sign about the dance is almost exactly what we saw in the original film). It’s not clear if we’ll be getting some flashbacks to the 70s in the film, or if the environment around Haddonfield High is simply supposed to feel familiar.

Either way, we’re excited to see this new direction for the Halloween franchise! Halloween will return to theaters October 2018!
