The first full clip from Guardians of the Galaxy has been released and it stars Chris Pratt as Star Lord.

The clip was released by MTV. It features Pratt’s Star Lord in the same scene that was featured in the first Guardians of the Galaxy trailer, but this shows more of it.

Check it out:

In actuality, the amount of new footage in this clip isn’t much as the majority of the scene was in the trailer to begin with, but we do get to see how Star Lord gets out of the sticky situation he got himself into.

Movie lovers should feel something when they watch that scene. It is very clearly a callback or reference to Steven Spielberg’s Raiders of the Lost Ark‘s opening scene where Indiana Jones is attempting to retrieve the golden idol. What exactly Peter Quill is trying to grab here isn’t certain, but it’s a nice callback nonetheless.

Guardians is still somewhat of a wildcard for Marvel/Disney, but they seem to have put their full weight behind the new franchise. The first trailer looks fantastic, and the poster is a nice change of pace from what normally comes out of the studio. This gives us great hope for the film’s release this August.

While the Guardians are untested characters and the film includes a whole new world that doesn’t have the fan base that we’ve seen gather for Avengers or Iron Man, fans are excited for the movie.

Guardians of the Galaxy’s release date is set for August 1, 2014. Featuring an intergalactic group of Guardians, led by Star Lord, they make a desperate stand to save the galaxy.

Two-time Academy Award nominee Bradley Cooper voices the machine-gun-wielding Rocket Raccoon and is joined by Vin Diesel as the tree-like Groot, with Zoe Saldana, Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan and Dave Bautista filling out the leading roles. James Gunn directed and wrote the script.
