The first trailer for the film based on R.L. Stines’ Goosebumps has been released, and it shows Jack Black and his daughter chasing after popular Goosebumps’ monsters.

Goosebumps was incredibly popular starting in the early ’90s, as R.L. Stine published three or four each year. Each one told a spooky story of sorts, and in this first trailer we see the monsters getting out after a character from the film opens one of the original manuscripts.

It looks like they’re aiming for the proper audience for these books, but we imagine a lot of people who grew up reading the books may also want to check the film out as well. Jack Black is always good at creating a unique character for these types of movies, so we hope he’s able to bring some laughs to adaptation.

They’ve also released the film’s first poster, which looks pretty exciting. Check it out below:

The Jack Black-led adaptation of R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps will open in theaters October 2015. Rob Letterman will direct and Odeya Rush will be the female lead. Jack will portray Mr. Shivers, the creator of several creepy creatures that come to life.

The Goosebumps series was in its prime in the ’90s, so the film should resonate with young adults who grew up reading the series written by R.L. Stine. Goosebumps was later turned into a television show which ran from 1995 – 1998.
