In the first Dawn of the Planet of the Apes trailer we get our first look at Caesar since the last film and a concerning speech from Gary Oldman.

20th Century Fox has released the first trailer for director Matt Reeves’ sequel Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. The trailer is spooky in every sense of the word and looks very interesting. Watch the trailer below thanks to Fox:

The film’s story takes place 15 years after Caesar first went into the forest. Now he’s gathering his ape crew to take over the rest of the city where a small group of humans are struggling to survive.

This certainly feels very post-apocalyptic and with Gary Oldman’s speech and with the look on Caesar’s face we can tell this film will be an incredible battle between humans and apes. We don’t get much of a look at Caesar, but it’s solid enough to put on repeat just to keep seeing him.

Andy Serkis has returned in the lead role of Caesar, and the film will have a cast that is equally as impressive as the first, even though it will feature very few of the same characters. Jason Clarke, Keri Russell, Judy Greer, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Toby Kebbell will join the cast this time around.

The plot of this movie will be continuing the reboot/prequel’s direction of leading up to the original Planet of the Apes film. While we know where the plot is headed, it’s always exciting to see how it will get there.

A major plot point is of course the epidemic that sweeps over the world that kills a majority of Earth’s population. A viral video requesting that people protect themselves was released a while ago that we reported on so be sure to check that out.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes opens in theaters July 18, 2014.
