It’s almost been ten years since the Firefly feature film Serenity came out, and people still want a reboot. In fact, even one of the producers admits it could be great.

Tim Minear, the former Firefly writer-producer, had some interesting comments to make when asked about the potentiality of a reboot for the franchise.

To make things more clear, nothing has been confirmed or set. The last time Minear even mentioned the idea of a reboot to Joss Whedon, the series’ creator, was eight years ago. But the public just can’t get enough of the Firefly universe, so of course there are still more comments to make about the possibilities!

In an interview with EW, Minear states that he would never completely rule off the possibility of a reboot. “I would never foreclose the possibility. The fact that it was even a feature film after it spectacularly failed on Fox was a miracle. And of course it lives on in other forms. In terms of getting the band back together to make a new adventure, who knows? I would love it. It would be great. But first everybody has their respective projects that limits them from crossing over into other things. It’s just trying to coordinate everybody’s obligations so they could somehow participate.”

He brings up a good point about availability. Nathan Fillion, the lead in the Firefly series, is currently in contract with ABC’s Castle, which is currently in its most watched season. You can’t have Firefly without Malcolm Reynolds!

But if they were available, then what? Minear seems to think a limited series would be best, if it were to happen at all. “I’m completely talking off the top of my head, but there’s a show that’s been on for the last couple years that’s reinvented the form in terms of the limited series. I’m trying to think of the name of that show — Oh yes! American Horror Story! It doesn’t have to be 13 episodes. Look how Sherlock does it.”

Minear even states that a partnership between Netflix could be a good idea, which we completely agree with! The reboot of Arrested Development did insanely well with fans, and we can see how Firefly could have the same, if not better, success on the video streaming giant.

Would you want a limited series reboot of ‘Firefly’?

If Firefly were to come back in some sort of 12-episode run on Netflix or a 3-4 episode run on Fox, would that be enough to satisfy your thirst for more of the space western? Let us know in the comments below!
