Over the past few years Pixar has been very interested in sequel development – Toy Story 3 , Cars 2, Monsters University to name a few – and today we’re learning they’re moving forward with a Finding Nemo sequel.

2003’s Finding Nemo was directed by Andrew Stanton, and he is set to return. Deadline reports that he “has a concept the studio loves.” Stanton most recently wrote and directed Wall-E for Pixar and John Carter for Disney.

Pixar’s slate for the next few years is booked up, so we may not see Nemo 2 earlier than 2016. Monsters University is due out in 2013, The Good Dinosaur in 2014, a “movie that takes you inside your mind” in 2015, and Dia de los Muertos in 2015.

Meanwhile, Finding Nemo will be re-released in theaters in 3D on September 14.
