Fringe concludes its five-year run this Friday, and the final promo for “An Enemy of Fate” looks back to the very beginning of the show!

Get the tissues ready, cause this is a tear-jerker:

The promo focuses on Walter, who we see journey through the five seasons of Fringe as the voice-over informs us: “I have been called a mad scientist. I have stolen time and cheated fate. I have shaken the universe and beyond. My name is Walter Bishop. And I have a plan to save the world.”

We see Windmark with the child Observer, and Walter proclaims that, “we will protect the future of mankind, we will triumph over our oppressors, we will face one final battle.”

The trailer shows how the finale will take us to the other side one more time for a reunion with the alternate versions of the characters, lots of little blink-and-you-miss-it moments from the battle…and a tearful Astrid telling Walter that, “this is not the end, we’re gonna win this.” Walter asks, “do you have the will to change destiny? Do you have the strength to save humanity? Do you have the courage to sacrifice everything?”

And Peter alludes to the return of Etta (maybe the resetting of the timeline) when he tells Olivia that, “we’re gonna see her. We’re gonna have her back. Nothing else matters.”

Finally, Walter tells Peter that, “I know in my soul, this is what I am supposed to do,” and we see Broyles tied up and at Windmark’s mercy. Oh no!

Further, John Noble has recorded what will presumably be the penultimate installment of Noble Intentions, in which he reflects back on last Friday’s episode “The Boy Must Live”:

How will it all end? There will be deaths for sure, and all signs are pointing to Walter – but is it all a ruse? Or will Walter really give his own life to reset the timeline and erase the Observers?

The two-hour series finale of Fringe airs this Friday starting at 8/7c on Fox.
