The ups and downs were aplenty for both the overall development of the JRPG and then again with the Final Fantasy XV DLC.

There’s something about FF XV that seems to be the Achilles heel of Japanese game publisher Square Enix. The game was announced in 2006 as Final Fantasy Versus XIII, but then lost its director in Kingdom Hearts‘s Tetsuya Nomura shortly after it was rebranded FF XV. The game finally released in 2016, and while it was fun, the Final Fantasy XV DLC has only dragged out the game’s neverending development hell.

Finally, finally we can all move on from the drama that has been the tumultuous development of Final Fantasy XV content. The final episode of the Final Fantasy XV DLC titled “Episode Ardyn” will drop later this March.

There’s a certain peace resounding among the gaming community as Square Enix released a gameplay trailer for the DLC. It’s real, it’s here, and sure, there were meant to be 7 total DLC episodes, but at this point, we’ll take what we can get.

In the gameplay trailer, we see FF XV antagonist Ardyn as he wreaks havoc on Insomnia’s Crown City. The game’s villain will round off the DLC episodes a bit early, cutting fans short of playing through the remaining three that would have focused on Aranea, Luna, and Noctis.

Hajime Tabata, the director of Final Fantasy XV and its DLC episodes, left Square Enix this past November, leaving the JRPG without a captain to see its seven episodes of DLC come to fruition. Released thusfar are the episodes for Ignis, Prompto, and Gladiolus.

Of Tabata’s departure, Square Enix had the following to say: “We are told that he left for personal reasons. It is with regret to see the departure of such a talented member of staff who applied themselves on Final Fantasy 15 and many other memorable titles. We wish him every success for the future and will continue to cheer him on.”

The last Final Fantasy XV DLC episode in Ardyn’s backstory will go live on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on March 26, 2018.
