A juicy scoop surfaced this afternoon shedding light on Gus Van Sant’s mission to get the Fifty Shades of Grey directing gig.

Actor Alex Pettyfer, who recently was believed to be up for the role of Four in Divergent, secretly shot a sex scene over the weekend directed by Van Sant so that the director could sell his vision. The scene shot was the one where Anatasia Steele loses her virginity.

The Wrap’s report indicates that Pettyfer isn’t cast as lead male character Christian Grey at this point in time. He was only used as a stand-in for Van Sant. If the director does get the job, Pettyfer would naturally be one of the actors who could be cast.

The woman in the scene is not yet known, though The Hollywood Reporter quickly followed up with a tweet stating “a number of actresses” were involved.

Here’s a photo that’s critical to helping readers decide if he’d be good for the role:

Van Sant and Focus Features/Universal, who owns distribution rights to the Fifty Shades of Grey book to film adaptation, has worked with the studio in the past on Promised Land and Milk.

Last month Arrow star Stephen Amell said he took a meeting to play Christian. Universal said in February that they’re aiming for a summer 2014 release date. Kelly Marcel is penning the script.

Do you think Pettyfer would make a good Christian Grey? In recent years the actor has had roles in Magic Mike and I Am Number Four.
