Fans, or readers, or those who are aware of the series, may know that Fifty Shades of Grey was originally written as a Twilight fan fiction featuring Edward and Bella in the lead roles.

So could Stephenie Meyer and co. raise a fuss over it being made into a film?

The short answer is no, says a lawyer who spoke to Celebuzz. If there was going to be a problem, legal action would’ve already been taken:

“If there was an infringement on the copyright, or anything like that, out of the Twilight [books], when the Shades of Grey books came out, they would have stopped it at that point. So, as you move along and then take the book and put it down into a screenplay, by the time you’ve gotten to that point, that book is out there enough, and enough people have gotten it into the commerce and have seen it … If anybody would have had an issue, it would have already happened.”

Possible lawsuit or not, it will be strange to see the film in theaters knowing that it began as Twilight fan fiction.

E.L. James author and her agent are currently seeking a producer for the book-turned-film. After a producer is found, they’ll begin the search for a director and actors.
