A copy of the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey novel Grey has reportedly gone missing a week before its release.

Publisher Random House confirmed to People Magazine that a copy of Grey — which is Fifty Shades of Grey but from Christian’s perspective — has disappeared and was possibly stolen mere days before it’s scheduled to hit store shelves. “We can confirm that the Kent police are investigating the theft of a finished copy of E L James’ new book,” Random House said in a statement to People.

The police seem to think that the book went missing while in transport between warehouses. Police are declining to offer more details because it’s an active investigation, so it’s not clear how the publisher or anyone else noticed that a copy had gone missing.

You can count us skeptical about this whole ordeal. Setting aside the question of whether or not this Grey leak is a publicity stunt, the ordeal sounds all too familiar to what happened to Stephenie Meyer’s Midnight Sun: The book was Twilight from Edward’s perspective and had a planned release until it sprung a massive leak. Meyer was so upset by the news that she canceled the release entirely and just released an unfinished draft online.

And remember: Fifty Shades of Grey was originally a Twilight fan-fiction. There are so many similarities between Grey and Midnight Sun that it’s funny to think about.

Whether or not Grey leaks online, it’s unlikely that this book will see the same fate Midnight Sun suffered. Grey is due in stores on Thursday, June 18 (Christian’s birthday) and is already a huge hit.

What’s scary for Random House is not the possibility of author E.L. James growing upset and canceling the release, but the potential damage to book sales should it leak.

You can grab a copy of Grey on Amazon. Just don’t expect it to arrive early.
