We have two long years to go until the Fifty Shades of Grey sequel Fifty Shades Darker is released, but luckily for fans a teaser trailer has already dropped.

The Fifty Shades Darker teaser debuted on the Fifty Shades of Grey DVD and Blu-ray which drops on May 8. The first preview, clearly shot while Jamie Dornan was still filming Grey, features Christian (Jamie Dornan) putting on the mask seen on the book’s cover. It’s the perfect way to make a reference to the book — and in turn please tons of excited fans:

In related news, Universal head Donna Langley said in a chat this week that Darker will be “more of a thriller.” What that means exactly is not clear, but the intention seems to be to change up the storytelling so that it’s not so similar to the first film.

Fifty Shades Darker opens in theaters February 2017. We’re sure Universal would’ve preferred to release it February 2016, but the studio has had a few hurdles to clear before entering production on the sequel. For example, it was only last week that we learned Fifty Shades Darker will be penned by author E.L. James’ husband Niall Leonard. With work on the screenplay only just getting underway, it’ll take a while for the studio (and James) to settle on a script they’re happy with.

The good news is that the wait between Fifty Shades Darker and the finale Fifty Shades Freed is only one year in length (the finale hits theaters February 2018).

The Fifty Shades of Grey Blu-ray — the best option for readers in terms of coping with the distance between now and Darker — includes an “unrated” version of the film and an alternate ending. In addition, fans will be able to enjoy interviews and behind-the-scenes featurettes. Learn more!
