There’s a remake of Lord Of The Flies heading to the big screen, but it’ll feature one major twist!

According to Yahoo Movies, Scott McGehee & David Siegel have officially signed on to write and direct a big screen adaptation of William Golding’s iconic novel, Lord Of The Flies.

Many of us will undoubtedly remember studying Golding’s novel in school. First published in 1954, the timeless novel tells the story of a slew of young school boys who find themselves stranded on a remote desert island where they quickly descend into savagery.

So what’s the difference between McGhee and Siegel’s upcoming adaptation that we might not have seen in the 1963 and and 1990 adaptations of Golding’s book? This time around, the children stranded on the desert island will be girls instead of boys.

Speaking to Deadline, Siegel revealed that both he and McGhee are big fans of the 1963 adaptation by director Peter Brooks. The directors also elaborated a bit on why they feel the time is right to bring another adaptation of Lord Of The Flies to the big screen.

“We want to do a very faithful but contemporized adaptation of the book, but our idea was to do it with all girls rather than boys,” said Siegel. “It is a timeless story that is especially relevant today, with the interpersonal conflicts and bullying, and the idea of children forming a society and replicating the behavior they saw in grownups before they were marooned.”

Giving Lord Of The Flies the gender-bend treatment is certainly an interesting way to go about bringing a new version of the story to the big screen, but we expect it’s bound to raise some questions from fans of the book and movie-goers alike.

With that in mind, we’ll be curious to hear what you think of the news, so hit the comments below and let us know how you feel about an all-female Lord Of The Flies coming to the big screen sometime in the future!
